GlucaGen® HypoKit®: What is GlucaGen® HypoKit®?
GlucaGen® HypoKit® is Novo Nordisk’s glucagon emergency kit for the treatment of low blood glucose, it contains an injection of glucagon, a hormone that raises your blood glucose level.
GlucaGen® HypoKit® works by triggering the liver to release sugar, raising blood glucose levels. It is injected under the skin, similar to the manner in which insulin is injected.
Your healthcare provider might prescribe GlucaGen® HypoKit® for one of the following reasons:,
- Works fast—GlucaGen® HypoKit® raises blood glucose levels within about 10 minutes after an injection.
- Goes with you—No refrigeration needed, so you can keep GlucaGen® HypoKit® handy at all times.
- It’s convenient—GlucaGen® HypoKit® contains 1 mg (1 unit) of glucagon and a disposable syringe with sterile water.
- Protective, bright orange case—GlucaGen® HypoKit® is easy to carry, and easy to spot in an emergency.
- Easy-to-follow picture instructions—The instructions on the protective case show family and friends how to give an injection if you suffer a severe hypoglycemic event.
Talk to your healthcare provider or your diabetes care team about the ways in which GlucaGen® HypoKit® can treat you in the event of a severe hypoglycemic event.
Remember, if you are having a severe hypoglycemic emergency, you will not be able to treat yourself. You will need help from others around you. Make sure your family, friends and coworkers know where to find and how to use the GlucaGen® HypoKit®.
