Types of insulin
Levemir® (insulin detemir [rDNA origin] injection)
When diet, exercise and diabetes pills aren’t doing enough to control your blood sugar, the American Diabetes Association recommends basal insulin as an option. Basal insulin, like Levemir®, gives your body insulin throughout the day and night and helps control your blood sugar levels between meals and while you’re sleeping.
How Levemir can help you get to goal.
Levemir® is a man-made long-acting insulin that is used to control high blood sugar in adults and children with diabetes mellitus.
For people with type 2 diabetes, taking Levemir® just once a day can help lower your blood sugar levels and help you get to goal. Levemir®:
- Provides up to 24 hours of blood sugar control
- Effectively helps lower your A1C
- Was associated with somewhat less weight gain than older insulins (NPH)*
Levemir® is even available in FlexPen®, an easy-to-use prefilled insulin pen. Check out the demo to see how it works.
*In trials of up to 6 months, duration in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, Levemir® was associated with somewhat less weight gain than NPH. The true differences in weight gain between Levemir® and other formulations of insulin to which it has been compared in clinical studies is not known. It is unclear whether the effects on weight were tied directly to Levemir® therapy. The actual weight benefits to patients using Levemir® have not been established.
